About

Samira Memarzadeh is a classical and transcultural harpist with persian roots based in Germany. She plays in orchestras and her own ensembles, the Qantara Trio, Ensemble Perismon and do-nawā, where she interweaves music from diverse music cultures around the globe. In 2021 she founded the Ensemble Tiny Bridges, a music theater group that creates performances especially for empowering children with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Samira Memarzadeh studied music in Freiburg, in London and in Frankfurt where she completed her master’s degree. She was an academist of the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival and she went on a tour through Europe with the Gustav-Mahler Youth Orchestra. She also studied BA Islamic Science and Anthropology and connects her passions for transcultural music projects with musicians where she pushes the boundaries of classical harp playing with improvisation, quarter tones and new techniques - she rediscovers old styles and develops new styles of harp playing.

She is one of the german wide leading music pedagogue in the transcultural music style – working for festivals as the „Heidelberger Frühling e. V.“, for the „Deutscher Musikrat e. V.“ as well as cooperating with the „Netzwerk Junge Ohren e. V.".

Samira is lecturer for transcultural music at the University Cologne.
